GET THEE TO THE COTSWOLDS

cotswolds.jpg

When the simple life is calling, there is simply no other region that exemplifies the bucolic English countryside than the Cotswolds.  This unique region offers a tranquility and refined sense of pastoral beauty unlike any other in the world.  Charming narrow roads bordered by hedgerows and ancient stone fences meander through scenic pastoral farms with more sheep than one could count on the most restless of nights.  Each one of the carefully manicured villages, some centuries old, is more interesting and charming than the last.

This is protected place, one of civility, understated expression, and timeless traditions, all expressing a confidence that never yields to trends, modernity or change. The Cotwolds never shouts, only whispers its’ virtues.  Visiting this area requires one not simply to slow down, but to truly listen, to rest and connect with the land.  The loudest thing you will hear will be the baa of the sheep.  However, don’t think for a moment that the serenity of this place won’t encourage romance. Being here encourages the deepest appetite for connection and love.

While each market town in the Cotswolds has a unique and special personality, we have a few favorites we know you would enjoy.  Here are some of our favorite wedding or honeymoon experiences for you and that special guy.

Daylesford Farm

Daylesford Farm

The Daylesford Organic Farm is an outstanding example of the sensibility and refinement that can only be experienced in the Cotswolds. Located in Gloucestershire, near Kingham, this award-winning destination is considered one of the most sustainable farms in the U.K., supplying organic ingredients to their many restaurants and venues.   The picturesque Farm Shop has a carefully curated selection of baked goods, locally sourced organic produce, meat, wine and artisanal cheese that would satisfy the most demanding British picnic hamper.  Of course if your appetite extends to learning, don’t miss one of the many Garden Workshops to study floral arranging or The Cookery for their intimate culinary classes.  Should you require a respite from all of the shopping and learning, The Bamford Haybarn Spa is close at hand for their renowned restorative retreats, holistic treatments and mind-body classes.

For weddings, the Glass House is quite simply the perfect country venue, accommodating up to 80 guests. Some of your guests may choose to stay on the property in one of the unassuming, yet chic cottages.  Our favorites are the Wood Store and the Honeysuckle cottages.

The Wild Rabbit

The Wild Rabbit

Should you require additional accommodations, consider The Wild Rabbit just down the road from Daylesford.  This meticulously restored inn captures all of the fairy-tale notions associated with region, set in a tiny village and surrounded by quaint cottages it is the epitome of charm.   The renowned restaurant serves an outstanding menu of British delights reinterpreted for today’s palate.  An impressive wine cellar compliments the talented culinary team with a smart collection of wines from small independent vineyards.  Above the restaurant a variety of petit contemporary guest rooms, won’t require you to venture far when the aromas summon you from the kitchen below. The Chicken Shed provides a private dining experience for 20 people and comfortable setting for intimate receptions.

The Slaughers Country Inn

The Slaughers Country Inn

The village of Lower Slaughters in Gloucestershire is about as idyllic as anyplace you will find in this storied countryside.  A delightful creek runs through the village, with ancient stone cottages and farmhouses lining its banks.  It is here you will find two of our favorite inns, The Slaughters Country Inn and the Slaughters Manor House.  Both of these luxurious inns provide handsome guest rooms, impeccable grounds and charming restaurants.  They are both perfect for smaller wedding parties, and truly provide an exemplary setting to celebrate your nuptials.
