Adam & Adam: A Gay Bohemian Wedding in Los Angeles

We talked with Adam and Adam about their wedding and some of their favorite moments and what led them to where they are today. Happily married and living a great life together.

So, how did you meet?

We met during a musical in Los Angeles.  Adam Bucci was Adam Huss' understudy!  After a couple of weeks of rehearsals we hung out outside of the theatre and the rest is history!

What did you do on your first date?

We went camping in Malibu!  All we did was talk and sit around a fire.  (We swear nothing else happened! haha)

Was it love at first sight? What did you think of each other when you first met?

After the original lead actor dropped out of the production,  Bucci was a little annoyed that this really handsome guy ALSO named Adam was hired as the replacement instead of being the replacement himself.

And when did you figure out that you should be together forever?

Honestly, that first date while camping was all it took.  We really never left each other's side since.

Who ask who? And what was the engagement like?

We just moved into a new apartment and we invited close to 40 close friends to break in the new place!  Little did Bucci (and the guests) know but Huss secretly invited everyone to an engagement party.

Okay, now to the big day. What was it like?!

We got married on July 25th, 2019 at The 1909 in Topanga, California.  It was a rustic venue in which the ceremony, cocktail hour and dinner all took place outside under bistro lights and on a grassy meadow on the hillside.  Dancing later continued indoors with a live band!  All of the decor was meant to feel like you were in our cozy little apartment.  Bucci had a vision that he wanted all the flowers to be shades of blue as well as our clothes! We're pretty big comic book nerds and horror fans so we brought in all our favorite collectible items to act as centerpieces and decor throughout.  We even had our cocktails named after our favorite horror movies and creatures!  Instead of table numbers, we had pictures drawn of our favorite things for each of the 15 tables! So you could have sat at the "Jurassic Park" table or the "Werewolf" table or you could have been really lucky and sat at the "Sawyer" table---our son--I mean our dog :). We made sure fairy lights coated every surface of every table and later that night when we went dancing indoors we had a blue neon sign that read "ADAMSQUARED" illuminate the dance floor! It was a magical day and night.

That sounds amazing! I bet your vows were good, too?!

"I can’t wait to eat eggs every morning with you. I can’t wait to snuggle up on the couch with you each night to watch a scary movie. And I can’t wait to celebrate with our beautiful family and friends in just a few minutes.
There was a time I didn’t think any of this could happen.  And there was a time I would have never been confident enough to wear blue glitter shoes. But today I’m proud of us. I’m proud to be yours and I couldn’t be happier.  (Bucci)

"Life Happens and can sometimes get in the way. But when I'm away from you for even 24 hours, I wonder how I ever lived so long without you. I'm marrying you because you are my person, who helped me make sense of who I authentically am, and made me believe that WE could have all the things in this life that we were afraid we would never have." (Huss)

(Holding back tears) Speaking of emotions, what were your emotions like on that day?

When we started dating 7 years ago, we didn't have the support we have now.  When we were standing under the arbor during the ceremony,  we both felt the enormous wave of love and positive energy just being thrown our way from the 120 guests.  It was the most amazing feeling.  It was pure love coming from all directions.  Never before had we kissed in front of our families or have we had crazy acts of PDA but all that anxiety of what others would think just melted away.

Is there a particular point of your wedding that sticks out?

From start to finish, our wedding day felt perfect.  Everything from our Mom's walking us down the aisle, the ceremony, our siblings toasting us, dancing to our favorite band and Adam Huss' Dad and niece singing for everyone at the end of the night....it was all so special.

Was there a point of the planning process that took you by surprise?

The most surprising part of planning a wedding is that it actually all comes together! There were times I didn't think it was possible but we had a vision and we just went for it!

Any advice for other couples planning their wedding?

Don't be afraid to ask your friends and family for help! Hire a day-of coordinator!

But before the "day of" my advice would be to be extremely organized if you're doing DIY decorations as we did. Every single item brought in was labeled so it could be set up and broken down without us having to tell everyone where it went and who's taking it home at the end of the night!

What about advice for the wedding day itself?

All of our wedding decor and flowers were brought in the morning of and had to be cleared directly after! We would have never been able to pull it off without our day-of coordinator (Blue Moon Event Planning) and a handful of our most amazing and trusted friends!  We also made a deal to not leave each other’s side during the cocktail hour.  We didn't want to get pulled apart.  We wanted to soak in every minute together.

How do your friends and family describe you two as a couple?

I think they would describe us as a good team.

Alright, the big question, where did you honeymoon?

Not Yet!! We really hope to be able to take a trip this year! Funny enough Adam Bucci just won a trip to the Bahamas when he was at the Ellen show a couple of months ago so that may just be the honeymoon destination!
