Jeremy & Kai: It's Never Too Late
After nearly 17 years of being apart, Jeremy reached out to Kai over Facebook to reconnect. After just a couple of weeks of chatting, Kai asked Jeremy out on a date.
“We decided he would pick me up, and we had dinner at a local restaurant, Traders Point Creamery. After dinner, we went back to his house and watched T.V.” It was a casual start to their relationship. Having known each other so long ago, it was like reconnecting with an old friend.
“Our first impression was one of familiarity, and I thought he was just as handsome as the first time I met him years ago. I think he was pretty happy with what he saw too.”
After about 4 months of seeing one another, they started to connect the dots. “We realized why the universe had brought us back together and crossed our paths. My heart started to heal all the pain it had ever felt. I just knew he was going to be the rest of my life. He felt like home.”
From the start, things felt serious. Comfortable, but with the notion that they were serious about staying together. With engagement on the mind, Kai planned a trip for him and Jeremy to Hawaii. “Everyone said he was going to propose and I didn’t believe it! After a romantic day of a private helicopter ride over the islands, and a private lunch on the beach, we went back to our beachside condo. He pulled me close, and said the sweetest things, which he always did. But his tone was different, and so was the look in his eyes. Then he pulled out this amazing ring and proposed. I was speechless, but of course managed to say “yes”. It was truly the happiest day of my life, with the exception of our wedding day of course. It was truly a fairytale moment.”
Upon returning from Hawaii, Jeremy and Kai began to plan their dream wedding. And what better place to get married than where they got engaged? Finding The Royal Lahaina in Maui as the perfect space to host their wedding celebration, their wedding date was set for January 19th, 2019.
Having a wedding planner made the process much easier, but it still took several months of planning with countless hours of sorting out details. The two knew that all the hard work would definitely pay off.
As their destination wedding began, the excitement from Jeremy and Kai was palpable. “We had 33 close family and friends in attendance. The vibe of happiness and peace washed over me like nothing I had ever felt. Our hearts had finally made their way home.”
Jeremy and Kai joined hands in front of their closest family and friends in attendance, and read their vows, committing themselves to one another.
“The universe first intertwined our paths 23 years ago. As I stand here 23 years later, I realize this day marks the most important day of my life—the day I get to marry my best friend. My love for you is endless. My admiration for the person you are is immeasurable. You came into my life and helped me heal the broken parts of myself. Your love has made me whole. You give me the ability to completely trust that no matter what happens in our lives, your presence, and your love, will be constant. Each day, I wake up to your beautiful smile and think to myself “this is what I’ve waited my whole life for”. You are the best part of my day and you are my favorite person. I promise to protect your heart fiercely and loyally. I want to be the reason you smile, the reason your worries disappear, and the reason your fears turn into hope. I promise you will always feel safe in this world. I can’t tell you how grateful I am that you have chosen me to be your husband. I am forever yours and I’m excited to see what life has in store for us as we take it on, as Mr. and Mr. Hyatt. I love you.”
“I was elated, I was relieved to have finally met and married “my person”. I felt immense gratitude that 33 people loved us, and supported us enough, to make the trip to Maui to see us get married. I kept thinking I was the luckiest man alive.”
After the wedding day, Jeremy and Kai stayed on the island for a full two weeks. They enjoyed a beautiful condo right on the beach in Kihei, a trip they will certainly not forget.
“Many describe us as the perfect match for the other. Our friends and family, individually, watched us go though heartache and trying times over the years. They now say they’ve never seen a couple who brings out the best in the other. We are the best versions of ourselves. That’s what true love does.”
When asked what advice they would give to other’s planning their wedding, they said, “enjoy making every decision, no matter how tedious or frustrating. The actual wedding day goes by so fast! So soak up every minute of the process. It’s a once in a lifetime experience. Savor every moment.”
